词语用法:
v.(动词)
adjourn的基本意思是“休会; 休庭; 延期”,可用作不及物动词,也可用作及物动词。用作不及物动词时主语可为会议、谈判、法庭等。用作及物动词时,主语可为主席、委员会、董事会等名词或代词,宾语则可为会议、谈判、审判、调查等。
adjourn for可表示“中止某事而去做另一事”; adjourn to可表示会议等“移到另一房间”或“移到另一处”; 表示“延期至…”则可说adjourn to或adjourn until。
用作动词 (v.) The meeting adjourned till five o'clock.
会议延至五点召开。
The chairman adjourn the meeting for a week.
主席把会议延期一周。
The motion to adjourn was carried.
休会的提议通过了。
The meeting will adjourn sine die.
这个会议将会无限期休会。
Capitol Hill will adjourn early this year.
美国国会今年将提前休会。
