Catherine Destivelle is rock star. She loves rock, but she can’t sing or play the guitar! She is a rock climber and a big star in France and Italy. She is the most famous woman climber in the world because she climbs without ropes. She climbs in many countries but most often in the French Alps near Chamonix, where she lives. She started climbing near her home in Paris when she was five. Then, at fourteen, she joined the French Alpine Club to learn more, but immediately she climbed better and more quickly than the older members of the club. She won her first competition in Italy in 1995.
Three years ago she found a new route up the Dru Mountain near Chamonix. The climb took eleven days and for four days the snow was so heavy that she could not move. Last year other climbers tried to follow the new Destivelle Route, but they failed. They are going to try again this year.
People always ask her about her climbing. She says, “I climb because I’m in love with mountains. I like touching the rock and reading the face of the rock. I like it a lot. I felt at home on the side of a mountain. I prepare well before I go, so I’m never worried.”
Catherine chooses new mountain from books --- like buying from a shopping catalogue(目录)! “I see a nice mountains and I go to climb it!” Her next mountain is in Pakistan. She is going there next month. “It’s much bigger than the Dru, so it’s going to take longer to climb. An American climber, Jeff Lowe, is coming with me to help. ”

Open a large handkerchief out and show both sides of it to your friends. Point out that there is nothing in it; then show them both sides of your hands, which are also empty. Now ask a member of your audience to give you a match. Ask him to put a mark on it with a pen or a pencil. Fold up the handkerchief with the match in it, and let everyone present see you do this.
Give the handkerchief to anyone in the audience and say: “Here’s the match. Can you feel it? Good! Now I want you to break it into two pieces.” When he or she has broken the match, you say “Would anyone like to feel the broken match in this handkerchief?” several people will probably want to feel it. When they have satisfied themselves that the match really is broken, you say, “Now I’m going to make the match whole again.” Perhaps your friends will say that that is impossible.
Hold the handkerchief in one hand and pass your hand or your wand(magic stick)over it, saying: “Abracadabra, abracadabra.” Open the handkerchief and let the match fall on to the table or floor, saying “Presto” as it does so. When the audience examine the match, they will find that it is quite whole and undamaged. The member of the audience will see his mark on the match. Everyone will be amazed!
The secret of this trick is quite simple, as in all magic tricks. Long before you do the trick you must do one thing --- you must push one of your own matches into the hem(摺边)of the handkerchief. This must be pushed well along the hem so that it cannot fall out or be seen. When you have wrapped up the match provided by a member of the audience you must take care that it is the match in the hem which is broken, and not the other. You should practice the trick in private, of course, before you perform it before an audience.

London has a new magazine. But it is not printed on paper. Everyone who has a television can receive it because it is on TV.
In order to read this magazine you have to have a decoder(解码器). Each page of it is numbered, so you only have to dial the number to choose which subject you want to read about. There is a wide choice—everything is included from cooking to the latest sports news.
If you want to read the news, the first thing you have to do is to turn to the back page which has an easy-to-remember page number, 100 for example. Then you start choosing what you want to read. The news is on page 101 to 109 so you put in the numbers and the news appears written across your screen. Perhaps you want to go out in the afternoon, so you press 181, and a brightly colored weather map appears on the screen. But the weather is terrible so you decide to go shopping and dial 162 for a list of the week’s best bargains. But should you drive or take the train? To answer that question you only have to press 189 for the traffic report. It is very simple to use. But probably the best thing about the service is that it is being updated all the time. Journalists type new material directly onto the screen and the whole pages of the magazine can be replaced in minutes.
London already has three services. One, sent out by TV, is called ORACLE while the other two, on BBC, are called CEEFAX because they let you see facts. Although CEEFAX and ORACLE have been operating for some time, they have not been well publicized. BBC engineers do not think that their idea will ever replace books and newspapers because they can be taken with you everywhere. But many people would agree that is a breakthrough as great as the invention of printing, which could not just change our reading habits but our whole way of life.
64.We can know from the passage that in London .

At this busiest gift-giving time of the year, many of us wonder what to do with the unwanted presents we get. Is it all right to re-gift --- to give the unwanted present to someone else?
A gift is a symbol of what a relationship means to us. The best gifts meet the needs or satisfy the desires of the receiver. A gift should be about pleasing the other person, not showing off the taste, wealth or power of the giver.
Still, a friend, colleague or family member who knows us well might now and then buy us something that is the last thing we’d buy for ourselves. People in long-term relationships can be surprised at the choices in clothes, music or gadgets(小玩意)made by their friends or relatives.
Re-gifting creates a dilemma because we don’t want to hurt the feeling of the gift-giver, but we also feel it’s wasteful not to use something that might benefit someone else. After all, some people like orange and red sweaters, or the complete recorded works of Wayne Newton (US singer), or fruitcake (which you don’t like at all).
Re-gifting avoids waste and repays a debt of gratitude we owe to someone else, but it presents the risk that the original giver will be hurt if she or he discovers what we did.
Following are a few guidelines for re-gifting:
?Don’t use the gift.
?Re-gift soon, so you don’t risk re-gifting to the original giver.
?Make sure that the new receiver doesn’t know the original giver or is unlikely to run into him or her.
If there’s a possibility that the original giver could learn about the re-gift or if he or she expects to see you wearing the gift, consider asking for permission. Let him or her know how much you appreciate the thought behind the gift. A person who understands that a gift is intended to be pleasing will understand. As long as the person who gave the unwelcome gift doesn’t mind or won’t find out, you can re-gift with a clear conscience. Besides, you can be sure that at least one of the gifts you’ve received was given originally to someone else.
68.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.What Is Re-giftingB.Dilemmas of Re-gifting
C.Re-gifting Only with CareD.Do You Know Re-gifting
69.According to the author, the gift that you want to buy for your friend had better be the one .
A.that can benefit someone elseB.that you want to buy for yourself
C.that is a necessity for your friend D.that will surprise your friend
70.What can we infer from the last sentence of the passage?
A.The gift you get is the one you bought for someone.
B.You’ll receive more than one re-gifted presents each year.
C.You should re-gift at least two gifts each year.
D.Re-gifting is a very common practice today.

The number of suicide attempts immediately fell sharply. Perhaps it would have fallen even more if the bridge had been done in pink or baby blue.
___75___. It is an established fact that factory workers work better, harder, and have fewer accidents when their machines are painted orange rather than black or grey.

Dear Manager,
My name is Li Hua, a high school student. I read your company’s recruitment advertisement in a newspaper. It says you need several part-time mobile phone salesmen to work at the weekend. In my opinion, the job would be very suitable for me. For one reason, my oral English is fluent and I like talking with others, and for another, I have a lot of free time, and therefore I would like to make full use of it . In addition, I am not only fond of your products, but I also have a good, professional knowledge of them. In short, I think I am qualified for the job . I hope you can give me a chance.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely
